Everyone loves a spa day… a tradition we have actually passed down as the fountain of youth to Cleopatra’s day of rejuvenation… but which traditions should we keep and which ones should we toss? Let a dermatologist tell you!
Extractions can be beneficial when done with the proper tools and not too aggressively:
Masks need to be applied based on the skin type (I.e. acne prone-sulfur mask, dry skin- hydrating masks)— check out our blog posts on masks for more!
Massages- a facial massage that increases blood flow to the skin and improves lymphatic drainage when performed properly
Saunas & Steam Rooms
Saunas present dry heat to your pores and increase sweating. These theoretically can ini clog your pores by pushing out blocked toxins. The heat also improves you blood circulation.
However, if you have sensitive skin or rosacea (check out our blog post on rosacea to see if you really have it) saunas and steam rooms can cause a flare. ALSO, there is NO evidence that steam rooms or saunas improve acne. According to the Academy of Dermatology, sweating aggressively can actually make acne worse. If you love the sauna and steam, definitely take a cooler shower after to rid your body of swear and inflammation.
Before all of these events, if you have problematic skin, see a board certified dermatologist (like me) to determine what treatments are ideal for your skin type!
